The final school bell of the day rings and students run to get out. Most students are in a hurry only to get home and lay in bed, eat their favorite snack, or even binge watch a new show, free from any and all obligations. But not junior Luis Tovar.
In the summer of 2022, Tovar founded a business named LFT Media, where he operates and manages a digital marketing company that creates digital ads for general contractors. They put the general contractors’ websites on different ad spaces and test ads to see which ones are getting the most clicks and which ones are getting the most attention.
“Like on Google, or whenever you go onto a random website and there are ads that pop up on the top right,” Tovar said. “That is what we do.”
He initially started the business because he was interested in cars and wanted to get an older, 1988 944 turbo Porsche that’s been his dream car since he was five.
“I didn’t necessarily have enough time to get a regular after school job, so I decided that starting a business would probably be the best idea,” Tovar said.
Tovar now has three employees that he found by posting job requests on a website called “Upwork.” He said he ended up interviewing about fifty to a hundred people for these spots and chose the best ones.
“I have two employees that help me perform the work since we do digital marketing; I have one employee that mainly does Google ads and the other one that does the Facebook ads,” Tovar said.
Tovar also does some of the ad work; however, he mainly manages clients and his employees, which is why he ended up hiring a third employee to help assist him and keep things in check.
“Some days after school it is literally just all meetings, meetings from 4:30-9:30,” Tovar said.
He is enrolled in five AP classes that require consistent amounts of homework. Additionally, being on the Champion track team means he sometimes doesn’t get home until 10:00 PM because of his after school workouts. His desire to attend church and maintain time with friends on top of everything makes it difficult to manage his time. However, the lack of time does not stop Tovar.
“At the end of every week, I try to do at least one meeting with our clients that we are working with, just to see how they are doing, what they want us to work on, and overall updates, which generally takes about 30 minutes to an hour,” Tovar said.
