The Cross Country season has officially ended, and the Boys Cross Country Team placed 5th overall at their State meet in Round Rock on November 2nd. There have been many races across various meets.
This marks the end of the current lineup because it is the seniors’ last year on the team and the beginning of a new one with all of the sophomores taking their place next year since the team has no juniors.
“My goals for next season with the seniors gone is to be able to place in the top 15 in State,” sophomore Shawn Edwards said. “It’s gonna be a huge change without them.”
As the season progressed, the team’s focus shifted to the State Championship. Their training consisted of running 10 miles in the mornings and weight lifting. The team was very anticipated for the biggest race of the season.
“My most memorable moment of the season was the team grouping up together talking about how we earned our spot at state,” sophomore Brandon Martinez said.
The racers believe they have shown great improvement from this year to last year. Several athletes have been able to break their personal records.
“Last season I ran way worse than this season, so it’s always great to show improvement,” Edwards said.
A few weeks after State, the Boys Varsity Team went to the Nike Meet, where runners ran solo to get the fastest times among the hundreds of racers. One of our runners was able to place in the top 15 which is very impressive.
Since the Boys Cross Country Team lineup will be different next season due to the seniors graduating, future runners can step up and take their place in the new line-up..
“If you like working hard and having big dreams of becoming a great runner, I highly recommend joining our cross country program,” cross country coach, Sheila West said.
