From Thursday to Sunday this week, Champion Fine Arts is presenting “Mamma Mia!” in the CHS auditorium. Tickets are on sale through Revtrak and are also available for purchase at the door. There is a single cast for these performances.

Champion’s theater department has been working since November to make the performance as lifelike and coordinated as possible.

“We started auditions in November, and then we took a month long break in December and now we’re back on our grind and open tomorrow[Jan.19],” said sophomore Riley Stewart, understudy and ensemble member.

“Mamma Mia!,” originally a romantic movie-musical follows Donna, who is planning a Greek wedding for her daughter Sophie. However, Sophie secretly invites three of her mother’s past lovers in hope of discovering her father, who would walk her down the aisle at her marriage.

“Donna raised Sophie on her own and is not particularly sure who the father is. She aids the story by showing the audience her heartbreak for the old flame (and possibly father) that she once loved, and by facing the truth of change and growth with and without her daughter,” said junior Raya Nuñez, who plays Donna Sheridan.

Performances continue until Sunday; members of every section of the fine arts program are involved — from dance to tech to band — to bring this Abba spectacular to life.

“My favorite part of [working on] the show is being able to work with your friends and being a part of a team and being able to create something that’s fun and brings joy to people,” said cast member and sophomore Brynlee Bryant.
